I love board games! I’m starting this blog because there needs to be a casual alternative to the overly analytical board games sites, and the game-player diaries that are out there.
I give an overview of each game and tell you what you can expect from it, and the best time to break it out. I’ll give my opinions and share some information that might add to the game playing experience, but I won’t get into deep strategy or other attributes of the game that, to be honest, most regular people don’t care about. That’s what the geek sites are for.
I list a top 10 for each type of game, but those top 10 are subject to revision in a moment’s notice.
I host a monthly board games night with people who know how to have a lot of fun, but who will also put a lot of effort into the game, so that the result is an intellectually satisfying and socially stimulating evening. Many of my comments here are based on such experiences.
If I am successful, then readers will take my advice, play one or more of the recommended games, and rediscover the real fun of spending time with friends and family.
Love the blog, Johnny! I remember checking it out a while back when you began, but now it’s really filled out…some might use the term blossomed…or call it post-pubescent…or, no, I’ll stop now.
Quick question: Why are you using a picture of a somewhat grumpy, apparently burnt-out, Bob Seger as your website pic? And is he so unhappy because he’s trapped in your basement…or is it his basement? Just curious.
Your #1 fan,
Jim.

Really enjoy your site. I’ve started my own blog with a similar discussion of games, news, and my experiences. Glad to see I’m in good company.

Hi Johnny,
I’m really impressed by your blog. I was trying to find some information about board games and came across yours, which did provide me with loads of helpful info.
I have just played some board games like Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow, Bang!! or Monopoly, but I’ve already fallen for them. However, in my place, it is very difficult to find a shop selling this kind of games. So I’m thinking of opening a shop myself, not only to make profit but also to make them widespread.
The only problem I have to face with now is how to find a goods supply, from which I can get good quality games with competitive prices. So as an experienced gamer, can you please recommend me some supplier? I really appreciate your help.
Thanks a lot.

Is that a Myst board game in the background of your pic? Didn’t know anyone made one.

Yes…yes it is. But there was no release of Riven, the board game. Sorry…
